Big Changes Coming to Dinh Quang Temple

Here are some dates to keep in mind in the weeks ahead and we prepare to switch our regular morning services to Sunday mornings:

  • Saturday, August 5, 2023: The temple and grounds are CLOSED.

Our English-speaking services continue to be offered on Saturday mornings (9 a.m., chanting and meditation; 10:15 a.m., Dharma class) and Wednesday evenings (6 p.m., chanting and meditation; 7:15 p.m., Dharma class). However,

  • Our final Saturday morning service will be Saturday, September 2, 2023.

  • For those who are participating in the Dharma Teacher Order classes, our first class (via Zoom) will be Saturday morning, September 9.

  • We will celebrate Ulumbana on Sunday, September 10, beginning at 10:30 a.m. It will include chanting in Vietnamese and English, the rose ceremony, an ancestor’s ceremony, lunch, and the Hungry Ghost ceremony. For those staying the whole day, we usually conclude by 4 p.m.

  • We will also be preparing gifts for the visiting monastics joining us for Ulumbana.

  • Beginning Sunday, September 17, our regular morning services will be on Sundays. We will continue to gather at the same times (9 a.m., chanting and meditation; 10:15 a.m., Dharma class). The Vietnamese-speaking service will begin during our Dharma class.

  • This will give us a chance to get to know one another better and grow in our understanding and practice of being a temple community.

  • This change of schedule will also help us as we expand our programming. For example, later this year, we plan to begin offering retreats at the temple again.
